Fresh from the garden
April 3, 2014 | I harvested and ate the first strawberry from my garden. It was delicious!
I planted strawberries in a big pot last fall, and to tell the truth I had almost given up on them. During the winter they seemed to suffer from the cold and wind, hardly growing at all. Then, just before we left for our cruise, I noticed that there were blossoms and some small berries beginning to set.
This morning I went out to see how they were doing and discovered to my delight that some of the baby strawberries were now huge and two of them were bright red ripe.
One was nestled among the leaves while the second was hanging over the edge of the planter. It was just calling my name and pleading, "Eat me! Eat me!" I ate it.
I think tomorrow I'll have sliced strawberries on my oatmeal. Yum.
