What part of unconstitutional don't you get?
August 6, 2010 | On Wednesday, Judge Vaughn Walker ruled in US Circuit Court that California's Proposition 8, passed last November, is unconstitutional, and he didn't mince words.
Prop 8 had amended the California Constitution by inserting the words, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
The campaign to approve Prop 8 was spearheaded by social conservative groups with financial backing — lots and lots of it — from the Mormon church. If you want to understand how Prop 8 came to be, watch 8: The Mormon Propo$ition, available from Netflix. The tsunami of money flowing into California from everywhere else, and especially Utah, fed an unrelenting campaign built on fear and lies, so that in the end the proposition was passed with 52% of the vote.
