Relatively speaking

| Fall is definitely here. It's true enough that there are many days in September when the temperatures in Palm Springs are as high as those in August, but the arrival of fall shows itself as soon as the sun goes down. The desert starts to cool almost as soon as the last ray of sun fades, and by morning it can be downright chilly.

Take this morning, for instance. By eight o'clock it was only 64°F. (It's coldest just after the sun rises.)

I know that in some places that would be considered downright balmy, but when you're used to temperatures in the 90s and above, 64° is not just refreshing, it's bracing. And today's high is forecast to be only 85° — I'd better look for my sweaters.
