Below the belt

Hypocrisy alert!

Another southern Republican politician has been caught out for affairs below the belt! This time, it's Florida state representative Bob Allen, charged with offering $20 to perform oral sex on a male undercover police officer. Sheesh! Doesn't he know where to find people who would let him do that for free?

Earlier this week, David Vitter (R-LA) admitted to having committed "some serious sin," having used the services of a D.C. escort. He was working on Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign. Allen was working on John McCain's presidential campaign, already in melt-down. Who said the campaign was boring?

You may be thinking, What's the big deal if another politician gets in trouble over sex? And you would be right, except that Allen recently introduced HB 1475 into the Florida state legislature, a bill called "Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition Act" to make almost any public sex act a felony instead of a misdemeanor. I'm guessing Allen's glad his bill died in committee.

In 2005, Allen also introduced HB 251, called "Sexual Predators Elimination Act," that would have given individuals designated sexual predators a life sentence without possibility of parole. At the time, Allen told the WorldNetDaily, "We need to lock them up and throw away the key."

Allen's official biography lists his recreational interests as "water sports." Strange, he doesn't look like a skier.... The man "doth protest too much, methinks."

Is Allen the reincarnation of Cotton Mather, or what? He's certainly full of fire and brimstone — for others, that is.

Maybe it's something in the water. Remember that back in October 2006 it was another Republican Mark Foley who disgraced himself by pursuing male Congressional pages.
