AYR 4-month chart
AYR 1-year chart
11 December 2009. AYR reached a peak in September but has been trending down since then. There was a nice rally in anticipation of earnings, but the positive surprise was not enough to sustain it, and the 50-day moving average continues to fall. Although the price has pushed above the 50-day MA, the rise in price has not been accompanied by significant volumes.
- Percentage price oscillator (PPO) — converging back toward the signal line
- Volume — falling volumes since earnings
Based on technical analysis, MarketEdge calls AYR an "avoid" in a "weak downward trend."
23 December 2009. This was a good idea, but I let it go too long. Although this is still being called a short candidate, I don't believe it. AYR bounced off the 50-day moving average and is following the trendline up. So, I bailed out.
