Dance duo opens to piercing screams from fans in Riverside
August 14, 2016 | Friday evening, the usual suspects went to Riverside to attend the penultimate stop on the dance tour of Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, famously known for their performances on Dancing With the Stars.
The show, titled Maks & Val Live On Tour: Our Way, presents the story of how the brothers came to the United States from Ukraine and pays homage to the support and encouragement they received from their immigrant parents, determined to make a new life in the US.
You know that every audience has some people who like to make mischief, and this one was no exception, as seen in the photos of our group.
Before the show we went to a nearby Mexican restaurant for dinner, chosen for its proximity to the theatre, its cheap prices, and the many rave reviews found on Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google, etc.
Who knew? Tio's Tacos turns out to be one of those hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants that serves delicious margaritas and tasty food. You order at a counter and receive a number to put on your table so the servers can find you when they bring the food.
We ate out on the patio — it was a nice evening — and marveled at all the "stuff" around the property. It seems that the owner, Martin Sanchez, grew up in abject poverty in Mexico, so he developed the habit of saving and reusing stuff that others discard, turning their "trash" into folk art. His house, right next door to the restaurant, has a veritable circus on the roof.
And there is no end of "stuff" all over the property — structures, sculptures, and just plain "stuff."
