comparison of gas usage
Comparison of monthly gas usage. Note that the "month" is when the bill is sent, so February is actually mostly for January, and so on.

Not really

| It has been a very mild winter. I have only felt compelled to break out the long pants a couple of times.

Last week additional proof — as if any were required — arrived in the form of my gas bill. Consumption was down both month-to-month and year-to-year. For the latest bill, covering mostly January and the beginning of February, usage was only .8 therm per day, compared to 1.8 therms per day the previous February, a drop of over 50%.

So, when I see headlines like "<someplace> bracing for next storm" I simply shake my head and go out to enjoy the sunshine. That is Schadenfreude, technically known as "neener neener."
