February 4, 2013 | The usual suspects came over yesterday to watch the Super Bowl — well, the commercials, actually — and have a pre-cruise feast.
Kenny and Richard helped everyone get into the spirit of the day by bringing electrical tape to similate the black under-eye smears so favored by football players and signs for the backs of shirts indicating various positions, ends and backs of course.
It was a gorgeous February 3rd with clear skies and temperatures in the high 70°s. Naturally we had our starters — that is, massive quantities of junk food — on the patio.
As for the feast itself, the centerpiece would be a ribeye roast that I bought last Christmas when it was on sale and stashed in the freezer for some future occasion. This seemed an appropriate occasion.
It turned out to be a fantastic feast. Apart from the roast, there were baked beans, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, Caesar salad, and for dessert lemon meringue pies made with Myer lemons and a traditional Quebec fudge called sucre à la creme (basically consisting of two kinds of sugar and some cream).
After due consideration we decided to root for the Ravens, finding aubergine a fine color and their tights (instead of typical football pants) even finer.
