Give me a break!
December 11, 2012 | 11 December 2012. I tuned in to MSNBC this afternoon for my regular dose of progressive propaganda, only to find that the channel had been overtaken by "Breaking News" of a shooting in a mall near Portland, Oregon. OK, fine. This is good for 20, 30 seconds.
But it went on, and on, and on. There was nothing to report, but no matter — the broadcast time must be filled!
What really got my goat, however, was the pomposity of the news people: "We have confirmed...." As if they, the news people, did something affirmative. No, what actually happened was that a sheriff's department spokesman confirmed....
No, that's not right. What really got my goat was that someone's news "judgement" was that I should be interested in what went on 100s of miles away in Oregon that has absolutely nothing to do with me. Nothing to do with 99.999% of the people in the country with access to MSNBC.
What passes for "news" is now mostly mayhem. A shooting here. A car crash there. A riot yonder. Demonstrations thither and yon. I hate it.
