December 29, 2011 | When I moved into this house there were three big things on the "to-do" list:
After musing and procrastinating for months, and after several false starts at engaging a landscaper, the backyard make-over is now in progress. Here are the "before" pictures:
Weeds, weeds, weeds! When the weeds first started a thought passed through my mind that I should pull them up. A bit of time bent over and on my knees easily convinced me that I should just ignore them. After all, I would be giving the yard a make-over "real soon".
The flagstone patio extension never made sense to me. I couldn't imagine it serving any purpose whatsoever.
The planting beds were huge — while I would definitely like to grow some real tomatoes, a truck farm is not on the horizon. Besides, it would mean more of that pesky bending over!
The first day on the job the landscape guys made quick work of all the weeds and dead plants, leaving nothing but the four mesquite trees, and already the features of the new plan have begun to take shape.
Stay tuned — it's going to be gorgeous!
