Have cast and crutches, will tile
May 12, 2008 | While I was cruising the Caribbean in February, the house was transformed into a construction zone while the floors were being re-done in travertine. That was the good news. The bad news was that before my tile guy Alex could finish the project he broke his leg and was unable to work. Consequently, I've been living in chaos for over two months, with nothing in its rightful place and dust everywhere!
At the end of April, however, Alex arrived — hobbling on crutches and with one leg in a cast — to finish the job. With those handicaps, however, what should have taken a couple of days took a whole week and part of another. But by the end of last Wednesday the tiles were finally all in place and sealed. He'll be back next Sunday to put in the baseboards and finish up the thresholds. In the meantime, I am cleaning. And cleaning. The dust went everywhere, and getting rid of it requires the deepest of deep cleanings.
Even though the project is not completely finished, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and I am really pleased with how it looks. I can hardly wait to bring the furniture back in and be able to live in the whole house instead of being confined to just my bedroom.
