Cirque de Palm Springs
11-May-06. A local impressario got behind a project to bring "cirque-style" entertainment to Palm Springs, and Cirque Dreams has been playing since January in a big tent erected downtown where a deserted mall used to be. Some of the usual suspects went to last night's performance, and it was a great show!
If you've seen any of the Cirque du Soleil shows you know what "cirque-style" is: acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, aerialists, etcetera who perform in a magical, dream-like setting. Cirque Dreams is no exception. Some of the acts were awesome, especially the young girls who folded their bodies into shapes that just shouldn't be possible unless their bones are made of jello. And then there were the two young men whose "strength silhouette" routine included impossible positions.
The cast is truly international, with performers from: Germany, USA, Israel, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Russia, Canada, and Hungary.
The show runs through the middle of May and is supposed to return again for "the season," with musicals, concerts, and comedy in the summer and fall.
