They're at it again

Baghdad Bob

More fake news

One thing you have to say for the Bush administration. They're persistent. Once they decide on a plan, they stick with it no matter what. When they thought the press wasn't faithfully disseminating the administration 'message' they began producing their own television 'news' stories and paying 'journalists' to plant the party line in articles and when appearing on television and radio. They were rightly criticized for using taxpayers' money to create propaganda for domestic consumption. Now they're doing it again, this time in Iraq.

The Los Angeles Times broke the story this week that the Pentagon has been spending millions to have articles written by American troops placed in Iraqi newspapers as if they were unbiased news reports written by independent journalists.

Back at the start of the Iraq war when Rummy was unleashing "shock and awe" on Baghdad, we all had a lot of fun at the antics of the Iraqi Information Minister, affectionately dubbed "Baghdad Bob," as he maintained with a straight face the most outrageous fictions. Now we find the Pentagon is paying for its own corps of Baghdad Bobs.

The Bush administration is a national embarassment. Their every action shows they have almost no understanding of the words they love so much: democracy, freedom, debate, accountability.

There's never been a better example of "Do as I say, not as I do"!
