Collected in Laguna
21-Jul-05. Yesterday I made a quick trip to Laguna to fetch my latest art purchase, La Caja de Pandora by Cecilia Garcia Amaro.
Ever since moving in, I have been looking for something suitable for the blank wall in the living room. It's a big wall, so it needed something big and dramatic to occupy the space. Over the years I've come across a few things that seemed good candidates, but on second thoughts I passed them up, waiting for just the right piece. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I would know it when I saw it.
And there it was! While in Laguna, we walked into an art gallery, just browsing around, when a giclée (zhee-CLAY) print screamed out my name. After due deliberation — OK, 2 minutes — I put down a deposit. Two days later, I went back to complete the transaction.
But how to get it home? It was not going to fit in the Prius, no way, no how. I thought it might fit in the station wagon — until I got home and measured the station wagon. Oops! So yesterday I rented a mini-van and went to fetch it home.
My people are in a pout over the new arrival
After unwrapping the new objet d'art I made the introductions with my people. They're not taking the new arrival well. In fact, they sniffed loudly and turned their backs. Well, get over it, people!
All together now: Ooooh! Ahhhh!
