A search for Scharffen Berger chocolate results in another "only in Palm Springs" tale

Bay Area friends Andy and Chris were visiting the desert last week and went away with another of those Palm Springs experiences. Andy is another ex-HP who retired in the great "workforce restructuring program" of 2002, following the HP-Compaq merger. We had a long lunch (OK, three hours) with Ken, yet another ex-HP retiree in the same cadre, who has since started his own business here in Palm Springs. Andy and Chris, who were staying up in Joshua Tree, had been asked to bring back from Palm Springs some Scharffen Berger chocolate. They were told it was available from a wine and cheese shop "behind Starbucks" and "near Ramon." These clues were not definitive inasmuch as there are two Starbucks in Palm Springs proper, and neither is particularly near Ramon Road and neither has a currently-open wine and cheese shop behind it.

So, off they went in search of Scharffen Berger chocolate. Andy continues the tale:

Great news! We were successful in locating the Scharffen Berger chocolate for our Joshua Tree friend. After circling both Starbucks and finding no evidence of a wine and cheese shop, we decided to park and investigate the Palm Canyon area.

The owners of the Italian deli on Indian Canyon and "La Plaza" hadn't heard of the chocolate, but wouldn't let us leave without our next clue. Jane, the wife of the owner Carlo, made a few calls to other Palm Springs establishments to locate the stuff. Sure enough, Jensen's on Sunrise and Tahquitz carried the full line of Scharffen Berger products - just ask for Nora when you get there.

Well, right then and there we voted Palm Springs to be the friendliest place with the best weather in California!
